Before entering the car, walk around it to ensure the car's not damaged.  Then take the blue COP book, fill out the appropriate part of the Patrol Record section, plug in the cellular phone and turn its power on, turn the scanner power on, and adjust its volume to a convenient level, adjust seats and mirrors, turn on the yellow flashing roof light, (Off-notch 1-notch2, and we suggest notch 2). Check that you have at least 1/4 tank of fuel, and away you go. See this page to ensure the scanner is set up properly. 

You're on your own as to where to go. It is suggested that you stop for a 10 minute 'break' half way through. See and be seen. If appropriate on your shift, keep your eye out for the school kids. We want them to know they're being observed. 

At end of shift, go back to parking lot, finish filling out the patrol record, turn off scanner, flashers, put away cellular phone, and return the car.
